This is a small part of the Carina Nebula, a cold cloud composed mostly of hydrogen gas. It's covered in cosmic dust, making the cloud opaque. The cloud is being eroded by a burst of ultraviolet light from the region's younger stars, sculpting fantastic shapes. In some frames, smaller nebulae can be seen drifting freely, such as the 2.3 trillion-mile-long structure in the upper right corner. The most striking feature is a 3.5 trillion mile long horizontal jet in the upper left frame. It was blasted into space by a young star hidden at the tip of the columnar structure.
